Big success for the MSB celebration of the World Migratory Bird Day 2012!

MSB project celebration of World Migratory Bird Day 2012 met with important participation of local communities, farmers, hunters, tourist guides and children from several countries along the Rift Valley/Red Sea flyway. These awareness events raised the importance of conserving soaring birds to humans and their livelihood.
Palestine:
Palestine Wildlife Society, BirdLife in Palestine, held an awareness raising event and a bird-watching trip in Jenin and Mar Saba with the participation of around 100 farmers, locals and students: http://www.maannews.net/arb/ViewDetails.aspx?ID=486061
Sudan:
The Sudanese Wildlife Society held a 2 day bird-watching and awareness raising event with farmers in Khartoum Bird Sanctuary (Sunut Forest and Um Shugeira Island) during which the importance of soaring birds to agriculture was raised.
Ethiopia:
The Ethiopian Wildlife and Natural History Society, BirdLife in Ethiopia, organized a bird festival in the Berga Floodplain an Important Bird Area site (http://www.birdlife.org/datazone/sitefactsheet.php?id=6255). This event addressed the importance of migratory birds, especially soaring birds, to the tourism industry and agriculture.
Egypt:
Nature Conservation Egypt, BirdLife in Egypt, along with the Ministry of Environment have organized a bird-watching trip in Ain Sokhna: http://www.egyptindependent.com/news/amid-obstacles-enthusiasts-hope-bird-watching-tourism-will-take-flight
